Best Travel Sites for Booking Affordable Travel

The days of finding the best deal on sites like Expedia and Travelocity are behind us.  Sure, they still offer a great service. However, there are loads of sites out there that we leverage for booking travel that you might not have heard of.  The following travel sites with help you book affordable travel whether you’re looking to book cheap flights, cheap accommodation, rail passes, etc.

Having used dozens of sites to book travel, we have determined that these are the best travel sites for booking affordable travel:

Travel Pirates

There’s a reason these guys have over 6 million “likes” on Facebook.  We are signed up for notifcations so that we are always alerted when Travel Pirates release new awesome deals.  Typically they share evertyhing from flights to car rental and even accommodation.  They create awesome packages as well that essentially provide you everything you need for a holiday.  Check out their Facebook page and subscribe for notifications so you are the first to be alerted when they release error fares!

Airfare Watchdog 

These guys are very similar to Travel Pirates as well.  Airefare Watchdog is a great website and an even better Facebook and Twitter to follow.  Get notifications and you’ll always be in the loop for the awesome deals they find.


Skyscanner will provide you the best prices for flights anywhere on the internet.  Travel Pirates and Airfare Watchdog require a bit more spontinaity (being that you might purchase a deal they share as opposed to searching for a specific flight).  With Skyscanner you’ll be able to search flights anywhere in the world.  Skyscanner will compare hundreds of airlines and will find you the best deal on the internet!


If you’ve been reading our blog for any bit of time at all you know we adore Airbnb.  Hostels are great when you’re single and young, but when you’re traveling as a couple, Airbnb is awesome.  Being able to be in a place that feels like home while in a foreign country helps make one feel more like a local!  Check them out and you’ll be amazed at home great of a home you can find for prices as low as $50.  You can generally find rooms in peoples houses as low as $20, but to be fair, most “good” Airbnbs that we have stayed in are upward of $75-100/night.

Rail Europe

Rail Europe offers the best prices on single tickets and rail passes in Europe.  You’ll be able to buy single journey tickets and EUrail passes here at great rates!  If you’re travleing Europe for multiple days, you can save a ton of money by leveraging a Rail Pass!  Get a Global Pass and you’ll be able to travel by train in any country in Europe.  This is a great way to get around when you plan to see a number of countries.

World Nomads

Never forget to buy travel insurance, especially if you’re booking economy travel.
