Singapore Travel Guide

Our time in Singapore was a mere weekend, but we are lucky to have good friends who live in Singapore and teach at an international school.

As such, we got a locals perspective and have been able to compile a great Singapore travel guide for you guys.

Singapore is a gorgeous country and has a TON to offer for her size. Singapore is arguably the cleanest and safest city in the world but also one of the most expensive. Singapore is very international and is called home by individuals from all over the world. It is very business centric, and is a model to the world with its approach to economics.

-Where to eat-

Singapore has just about every type of cuisine one could imagine.  Some of our favorite restaurants are:
  • Boon Tong Kee – Try the chicken rice here
  • No Signboard Seafood – Get the chili crab
  • Ya Kun Kaya Toast Singapore – For the Kaya Toast
“Hockers” also offer a great assortment of food from just about every country you can imagine.  Think of hockers as essentially amazing food courts.  The best part?  They’re SUPER cheap (not common for Singapore).

-Where to stay-

Whether you know anything about hotels in Singapore or not, we are almost certain you’ve at least seen a picture of the pool at the Marina Bay Sands.  This pool sits 57 stories above the ground in the most expensive hotel ever built in the world.  These are our 3 hotel choices:

  • Marina Bay Sands
  • Fullerton
  • Swissotel

-What to do/see-

There is a TON to do in Singapore and the international community greatly takes advantage of that.  There is a great bit of fun to be had, regardless of what you want to do while you’re there.
  • Gardens by the Bay
  • Singapore Botanic Gardens
  • Waterfront Promenade
  • Take a ferry ride on Marina Bay
  • Chinatown
  • Haji Lane
  • Arab Quarter

Like walking through a dream! Singapore super trees at night.. 😍

-Nightlife-

Singapore is great for rooftop bars and nightclubs with gorgeous views of Marina Bay.  Check out these 3 bars/clubs when you visit Singapore:

  • Level 33
  • Kyo Nightclub
  • Altitude

-Getting around-

Singapore is EASY to get around.  The city has fantastic public transportation and is honestly relatively walkable.

  • MRT – Your best bet for traveling around Singapore is the MRT (their subway/train).  Get an MRT card, add some cash value, and you can get just about anywhere in the city at a pretty cheap rate.
  • Uber
  • Taxis
  • Walk – It will likely be incredibly hot and humid while you’re in Singapore, but the city itself is pretty walkable
